Spring 1873. People from all over the world pour into the tiny village of Göschenen in canton of Uri to work on the biggest and most spectacular construction site of the time: the railway tunnel under the Gotthard Pass. Following the destinies of three young people caught up in this electrifying era of industrial expansion, «Gotthard» tells the story of this gigantic feat of engineering that does more to join Europe's young nation states together than any other event in history.
